swingf it robin sing it ellasing it editline-up2

“Swing it Robin! Sing it Ela!” Is a jazz duo consisting of Robin Watt on saxophone and clarinet and Ela Southgate on guitar and vocals. We are  both Brighton-based and prominent on the South Coast music scene but also work throughout the South-East, and of course, London.

We are both full-time working musicians – for over twenty years I have run an eight-piece swing band known as “Rockin’ in Rhythm” and Ela has been fronting her own jazz quartet known as “Remember April” for the last seven years or so. We have often played in each others bands over the years but coming together as a duo is a relatively recent development.

Since March ’14 we have played every week in Bellagio’s Restaurant in Hove. We have played occasionally at Chambers Restaurant in Shoreham-by Sea and we have been booked for special events during the summer at The Lamb Inn, Piltdown. We have also performed at numerous drinks receptions and private parties.

We play wonderful standards from the ’30s,’40s&’50s – a mixture of timeless classics that practically everyone knows and some neglected gems that still seem to resonate with audiences. So, even though there’s just the two of us we can create quite a variety of moods and sounds. From up-tempo swing tunes to poignant ballads, cool jazz to hot Latin and some lush and atmospheric Bossa Novas.

We both have full Public Liability Insurance and all our electrical equipment is PAT tested
